The Date Setting
So, who doesn’t love a great date night with your other half? I was lucky enough to be able to have an amazing date night recently where we went and hung down by the Mandurah Canals for the annual Crab Fest. For those who don’t live in Perth it is an amazing little festival held once a year where we get to watch cool water shows on the canal, eat a trillion different kinds of crabs cooked all different ways, watch an amazing band, and watch fireworks all whilst having a cheeky pint.! It is great day out for families and children to but come on, sometimes we need a little bit of adult time!
The Crab Fest
So, we rock up the festival, we pay our $5 parking fee to park on grass – grass that is always there and on any other day you don’t need to pay but hey least the walk wasn’t to far! We stroll across to the market stalls and see a good 15+ food shops all selling something crab related! Chilli crab, garlic crab, crab paella, curries with crab and much more. We think to ourselves, this is pretty cool; especially for someone like me who loves sea food! But as it’s not time to eat yet so we go for a walk to have a look at all the cool set ups, we listen to the band playing and enjoy just chilling, the fun of not having to watch out for the little ones running off or listening to the “mum I want this, mum I want that” peaceful, music and just us (oh and the other thousands of people but we won’t worry about them).
Alone time is ok!
Being a parent is tough, its hard work and for those stay home mums or dads having some time out without the kids is a nice break and is much needed for one’s sanity! For me, TJ works away so the amount of alone time we get without the kids is super minimal, without one having to work, without me being sick (which for the past 12 months we have had), this date night was special, why? Because this was the first date night we have had since we got married last year because I had been unwell so each time he was home, we would be staying home, doing nothing, being BORED!
Now back to the crab fest, I understand there are loads of people who don’t enjoy seafood what are you thinking? It is so delicious we had this tray called “The Ultimate Crab Boil” it was delicious, filled with chorizo, corn, bread, a whole crab and topped with a tomato salsa and aioli – YUM! We even squeezed a cheeky pint in there – the Ginger, Lime and Chilli Cider was so delicious!
